Who
do you appreciate?
A client recently shared how she sends cards to unsuspecting people who normally
go about their day with little acknowledgement. I just had to share her story.
“I
use the Note-working
Success System cards for everyone — including my car
repairman, vendors, and clients. I even sent one to the teller at my bank who
helped me one day. Weeks later when I went back to the bank, she called me over,
and she still had the card at her station. She was still excited about receiving
it. At that moment, I realized the power of that note. I was still in the forefront
of her mind.
"Today,
I spend more time thanking people with a short note. I have noticed a positive
difference in the way people talk to me when I run into them or call them on
the phone in their warmth and smiles. I have to say it makes me more aware, too.
I have even used some of my cards as sympathy cards. One of the things I like
with this system is that you literally are given sample messages to write. Plus,
I keep my notes short, which takes no time at all.”

The
Power of Appreciation…
Handwritten Notes Can Increase Influence And Trust
Little
things matter – a lot. Especially little things that touch your
emotions and make you feel appreciated. William James said, “The deepest
principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.”
The
impact and power of a handwritten note is that you’re putting your heart
on paper. Sharing a personal experience of gratitude, appreciation and caring
through the handwritten word captures attention and is remembered. Think of the
last time you received a handwritten note from your boss, someone you purchased
from, or a personal friend. How did it make you feel? ( read

Women
Building Relationships
The
organization of eWomen Network is a business networking group of women building
relationships and supporting other women in business. This year, I’m privileged
to be part of the Atlanta Leadership Team with a number of other smart, successful
women. Our January 2007 event featured founder Sandra Yancey, who made this comment
on handwritten notes… “You can’t get more personal
than sending a handwritten note… lick the envelope, and even your DNA
is there.” Find out more about eWomen
Network and monthly events hosted at over 100 chapters in
the US and Canada.
A
Graphic Update
It has been a pleasure to work with the people at the Atlanta Community Food
Bank for the past 11 years, including the yearly design of their annual report.
I want to share an amazing statistic from the ’06 Annual Report we just
completed. In 2006, the Food Bank had a 52% increase of the amount of
food they distributed in 2005. An impressive 23,041,271 pounds of food were
distributed in 2006 — a lot of that increase had to do with the 125,000
Hurricane Katrina evacuees who came to Atlanta. It is a great joy to work with
this organization that touches so many lives. Find out more at www.acfb.org.
From
Conversation to Connection
The
first weekend of February, I was a small-group speaker at the Johnson Ferry Baptist
Church
Women’s Retreat. Hosted at Chateau Elan over three days, the 600 women
who attended the retreat were treated like queens while meeting one another and
learning from a variety of teachers and speakers. The session I taught, From
Conversation to Connection , focused on networking from a spiritual
viewpoint. God’s highest commandment is to love Him and to love one another.
We reviewed steps to move a conversation into a connection through a “speed
connecting” exercise and explored how you can encourage, support, and love
the people you meet by becoming a conscious conduit of God’s love — taking
action to make connections. We discussed the reality behind the theory of “six
degrees of separation” and examples of how God uses individuals to achieve
great results. Contact me at vlowry@profitsinprogress.com if
you know a church or group that would like a repeat of this presentation.
In
the Spotlight

I am honored to be a "spotlight woman" on the Multi-Tasking Woman web
site. My friend Kyle Young is a wife and mom, marketing consultant, visual artist,
writer and unlimited idea person. Her home and office are always buzzing with
activity and lots of positive energy. She is the consummate multi-tasker, which
was handed down from her mother, Fran. Take a look at the full “spotlight” article ,
then stick around and browse this wonderful site.

Tip:
Staying Healthy During Flu Season
I was at the end of a cold when the weekend began at the JFBC Women’s Retreat.
My fellow speaker and roommate Anita used the homeopathic remedy, Airborne®,
to stay healthy around me and so many other women. Here are some other tips
for staying healthy during flu season.
